The study of languages is one of the priority axes at La Salle Gràcia and represents a fundamental part of our project.
Today, the mastery of other languages becomes a basic component in the training of children, which favors the learning of new technologies and the knowledge of other cultures. It is good that the student learns foreign languages in a natural way, starting from an early age and that the learning is rich and immersive.
Language project in Kindergarten and Primary
Learning languages at an early age is very beneficial for children as it develops their linguistic competence and, in this way, they better assimilate other languages (including their mother tongue), which helps their intellectual development.
La Salle Gràcia is a center recognized and certified as a multilingual school for its commitment to learning foreign languages: English from P3 and French from third grade. The foreign languages project has different pedagogical proposals adapted to each age with the aim of making foreign languages living, useful and necessary languages to be used in various everyday communicative situations in the classroom and at school .
In the preschool stage, students spend 7 hours a week discovering new vocabulary and expressions through pictures, games, stories and songs. They get used to the sound of the language and immerse themselves through dynamic activities. The learning methodology is based on arousing interest in communication in the English language through positive and pleasant experiences for children.
In primary education, there are 7 hours of English language which are distributed as follows:
- Curricular English language (2h)
- Effective reading in English, complementary (1h).
- Oral expression in English, complementary (1h).
- Physical education in English (1h)
- Knowledge of the natural environment in English (1h)
The school teaches natural science subjects in English from primary to second year of secondary school and social science subjects in the last two years of secondary school.
Acadèmica international studies allow students to take various online subjects entirely in English throughout several years of secondary education. Once completed, the student obtains two degrees: on the one hand the Catalan Baccalaureate degree that accredits the completion of secondary studies and on the other hand the American High School degree.
Students at the school can certify Cambridge degrees.
Language project in Secondary
In both ESO and Baccalaureate, English is incorporated as a vehicular language in some subjects: 1st ESO, the subject of Technology (which also incorporates cooperative learning techniques) and the complementary subject “Mathematics, any problem? ”, solving mathematical problems. In 2nd and 3rd ESO the subject of technology is one of the complementary subjects of each year.
We also offer support to all those students who want to prepare for the official Cambridge exams.
In addition, we offer the possibility of studying the French language as an optional subject at secondary school. In order to promote the use of these languages, exchanges are carried out in ESO and Baccalaureate with other La Salle schools in Europe, both in 2nd and 3rd ESO and 1st Baccalaureate, always on a voluntary basis and in stay with host families.
